On July 6, 2024, the lives of four individuals, Melissa Parrett (44), Shane Miller (21), Hayden Rybicki (20), and Delaney Eary (19) were taken from their families and friends. Despite the tragedy, the community of Florence, as well as close families and friends, have united to spread awareness of the shooting in hopes of making a change and keeping the memory of those passed on alive. Since the shooting, foundations such as the Hayden Rybicki Foundation and fundraisers such as Octurbo Fest have been held to support the families who have lost loved ones because of the shooting, as well as to build funds to donate to local outreach porgrams.
